JEM allows you to customize the different sections of your site by enabling or disabling the top, bottom, left and right columns.  This gives you more flexibility in showing off content and design on your site.

You can enable/disable these sections dynamically in your JEM admin area, under Design > Site Layout > Column Options

The different sections that can be customized are as follows:

1. Home Page - enable /disable the left or right columns for the home page.  This setting is used if you have your JEM site default home page set as homepage or content under the Site Layout tab on the same page.
2. Store - this section is for the store component of JEM.  hide or show the left/right columns as well.  You must set this if you have your default home page set as store in the Site Layout tab
3. Profile Pages - this section is for the affiliate profiles feature of JEM. 
   
4. Content Pages - Content Pages are for those pages created under Content > Manage Content in the JEM admin area.  This is for blog pages only.
   
5. Standard Pages - Standard Pages are for content pages not set as a blog type in the Content area of JEM.  Use this setting if you want your own HTML pages to not show the left / right columns on the site
   
6. FAQ Pages - For FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) content pages
