JEM allows you to let customers automatically become affiliates by default.  By this, we mean that when someone purchase a product from your store, once they have purchased, they are automatically affiliates.  They can login to your JEM members area and get their own affiliate links and marketing tools directly.

You can enable or disable this option in Settings > Global Configuration > Marketing > Affiliate Marketing.

Set the customers are automatically affiliates to 'enable' or 'disable'.

If you want to separate customers from being affiliates, just set this option to disable, and they will have to manually activate their affiliate status in the members area.

You also have an option to 'approve' customers manually by 'require admin approval for affiliates' option to 'enable' in the same area as above.  By doing this, you will have to go into the members area and click on the 'enable affiliate marketing' option for their account before they become affiliates.
