A discount group in JEM is used for members that you want to have global discount pricing for on your store.  For example, you may want to have a certain group of users, such as your friends, always have a 10% discount on all purchases from your store.

It essentially allows you to create different groups of users that can have different discount amounts when they shop at your store.

You can use discount groups in a variety of ways.   One prime example would be something similar to a discount club. You can create a membership product that users can subscribe and they automatically become members of a discount group, thus allowing them to shop at your store for a certain discount amount.

This concept is similar to the price discount clubs available  today, such as Costco or Sam's Club in the United States.
